The Iowa Finance Authority (IFA) and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) have announced the 2025 Iowa Thriving Communities program. This initiative aims to recognize and support communities that are actively working to address housing needs and improve the quality of life for their residents. The program focuses on attracting housing opportunities for all income levels, ensuring that workers can afford to live in the communities where they work.
Six cities have been selected for the 2025 Iowa Thriving Communities designation: Council Bluffs, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Mason City, Newton, and Waterloo. These communities have demonstrated a commitment to innovative methods and best practices in housing development, infrastructure, and community revitalization.
The program emphasizes the importance of strategic, proactive, and innovative efforts to meet the housing demands of Iowa’s robust economy. It also highlights the role of community leaders and employers in ensuring that all Iowans have access to affordable housing. The designation comes with incentives such as Federal Housing Tax Credits and Workforce Housing Tax Credits, which are designed to support and encourage further development.
By recognizing and supporting these communities, the Iowa Finance Authority and Iowa Economic Development Authority aim to establish models for other communities across the state and nation, ultimately enhancing the economic and community vitality of Iowa.
